This is designed to help the Pilates teacher understand the benefits of Pilates for patients with diverse arthritic diseases. Dr. Brent Anderson will discuss precautions Pilates teachers should know when working with degenerative joint disease, degenerative disc disease, systemic arthritis, stenosis, and other rheumatic disorders. Participants will learn how to design programs for various real-life cases that will be presented by Anderson during the course.
By the end of this course, you will:
- Understand the nature of both degenerative and systemic arthritic pathologies
- Identify stages of arthritis and appropriate physical activity for patients
- Learn appropriate modifications to Pilates Exercises for this special population
- Discuss the appropriate goals and objectives for this special population
- Practice language skills to minimize alarm and encourage hope in patients
